  • Project details:

Irrigation of agricultural lands in Armavir Lands

    • Dam Type: Rock Fill Dam with Geomembrane Layer
    • Dam height: 30 m from foundation
    • Crest Length: 968m
    • Reservoir volume: 6.8 mcm
    • Type of spillway: Free ogee with flip bucket
    • Design flood: 99 m3/sec

    Project objectives:

  • Mastara Reservoir will be constructed on the Selav Mastara River, 4 Km north of Armavir Canal, near Dalarik Community. Mastara Basin has steep slopes, so that dangerous hazardous mudflows are generated after heavy rains. Hydrological and site condition allow the construction of a reservoir with a total storage of 10.2 M cubic meters and a useful storage of 8.2 M cubic meters . 2.0 MCM of water will be filled into the reservoir from the free flow of Selav Mastara River. The remaining 8.2 MCM will come in the 2nd and 3rd months from Akhuryan River, from the free flow available at the stretch from Akhuryan Reservoir to the head intake of Talin irrigation system. 8.2 MCM flow from Akhuryan River will be transferred through the tunnel of Talin irrigation system. Based on limit equilibrium analyses, the slopes of upstream and downstream side of Main dam and coffer dam considered as a part of main dam body. Geomembrane (with Geotextile) cover whole of the reservoir and upstream face of main dam and coffer dam. Also, the concrete curbs as Geomembrane and Geotextile layers bedding (thickness 0.25 m) have been considered. The Irrigation Intake should be able to pass 3.9m3/s at its minimum level. in addition to irrigation benefits, construction of the Mastara Reservoir will enable the two WUAs to regulate the water flow and prevent floods. Implementation of the Project will improve water availability for the currently irrigated 3,794 ha, ensure the irrigation of additional 590 ha and allow saving about 2.1 M kw×hr Electricity annually.
